If you ship and invoice goods with mixed tax rates together in one order, you may be allowed to apply different options concerning postage taxation. Depending on the assortment and rule in tax law, you may be able to split your postage according to the item taxation, e.g. 7% and 19%. Or you have to apply the tax rate that accounts for the largest proportion of sales in terms of value.
The module Shipping Split specifies whether postage costs are allocated by tax rates or whether they are determined by the value share of the tax rates.
The shipping costs can be split when importing orders from store systems and marketplaces. The calculation is then performed when updating in the order.
The module Shipping Split offers you the following features:
-
Split a postage amount in the sales order proportionally according to tax rates
-
Set a postage amount in the sales order based on the largest share of revenue
-
Manually insert and split any postage amount in the order as gross or net amount
-
Import a postage amount from the online store (e.g. Shopify) and have it split in Xentral
Warning
Before you start breaking down the costs in the order, make sure what tax laws apply to your business by contacting your local tax office or the IRS/tax authority.

-
Save is done automatically by setting the checkmarks.
You have two options available to split the shipping of your items:
-
Always split or adjust automatically when processing the document according to tax rates: The postage items are automatically split proportionally according to tax rates. Two postage items are inserted each with the automatically calculated value of the split.
-
Tax rate from predominant position value: The postage item is assessed at the tax rate that represents the largest portion of the order in terms of total amount.
Note
The second checkbox Tax rate from predominant position value can only be used if the first checkbox is Always split or adjust automatically when processing the document according to tax rates is also activated. If the first checkbox was deactivated, then the second checkbox no longer has any effect. Specifically, this means:
-
The first checkbox can be used alone
-
The second checkbox can only be used in combination with the first checkbox

Always automatically split or adjust according to tax rates when editing the document
The shipping costs are automatically split in the order when entering a shipping item by adding another shipping item and the pro rata calculation takes place. For this you enter the items completely. The split takes place when the postage item is entered, i.e. the item must be defined in the settings as a Item is postage be marked:
-
Enter sale item with 7%, the tax rate has been previously set in the item.
-
Enter sale item with 19%, the tax rate has been previously set in the item.
-
Enter postage item, in this case the item is marked as postage item.
-
When inserting the postage item, a tax rate is automatically inserted proportionally. In the same step another postage item is inserted with the other tax rate. The postage amounts are divided by value in this automatic calculation. The original postage amount is the sales price of the postage item that is stored in the article.

When importing orders from an online store into Xentral, you can have the postage in the order automatically split according to the tax rates when importing.
Note
This setting requires an appropriate online store configuration. You may need support for this setting in the setup of your online store and/or configuration support in the mapping of store orders (Online Shop Settings/Configuration) in Xentral.
The following requirements must be met:
-
Your store (e.g. Shopify) can pass the shipping cost correctly and match it to a postage item in Xentral.
-
You have in the module Shipping Split the automatic function Automatically split/adjust according to tax rates activated.
-
You have maintained the tax rates in your store accordingly and the items are submitted to Xentral in the order with correct amounts and tax rates.
Question: Can I use the module Shipping Split Change tax rates and postage costs and correct store imports?
Reply: No, you should use the module Shipping Split only if you need to split postage costs and postage amounts from your store for your invoicing. If you have configured your store correctly and have adjusted the corresponding configuration in Xentral, it is not necessary to correct orders. You should choose this setup correctly and set it up cleanly according to your company needs. Of course, technical circumstances or business and tax requirements may complicate a standard setup between Xentral and your store. In this case you should get help with the store configuration and the configuration of Xentral and decide if the possibility to use Shipping Split is possible and given with your workflow.
