You can access the settings for system updates by clicking on Settings (gear-wheel icon) in the upper right corner in Xentral. Next, open the menu entry Administration on the left and click on System update. To access the settings even faster, enter System update in the Smart Search.
Note
System availability during updates: The instance will not be available during the update process (standard updates usually take less than two minutes).
For example, online shop orders are continuously imported into Xentral during an update.
The following settings are available for the system update:
-
Update upon release: The update takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at around 12:00 PM (CET - Central European Time).
-
Scheduled update: You can freely choose and input the time of day for your update (CET - Central European Time). For optimal support, we recommend choosing times between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The selected time indicates the earliest possible start time for the update, not the exact execution time. The update can begin at any time after the chosen time. Example: If set to 7:00 AM, the update may not start until 12:00 PM. If set to 6:00 PM, the update will begin no earlier than 6:00 PM, making it ideal for updates outside of business hours.
Caution
Select the desired option and click on Save. You can change your settings at any time. After selecting or changing the time, click on Save again.
Our goal is to deliver the latest features and bug fixes to our customers as quickly as possible in order to improve the overall user experience. By automating updates, we ensure that all customers can benefit from the latest improvements without having to take any manual action.
To address such scenarios, we have expanded our monitoring systems and now perform automatic backups before each update. This allows us to react quickly in the event of a problem and to ensure fast recovery of your data and system functionality. If you have any questions or concerns, contact our support team.
No. Although Xentral creates a new version every week, it is rolled out step by step — based on release groups and within your selected update window. This means you regularly receive your next scheduled version, but not necessarily the highest possible version at the earliest possible time.
New functions are delivered with a version, but they are not always immediately visible to all users. Some new functions are first activated only for selected customers because they are introduced in a controlled manner. For this, we use feature flags (switches for functions).
What is a feature flag (switch for functions)? It is an internal on/off switch in Xentral. It allows a new function to be activated or remain deactivated, even though it is already technically included in your version.
What this means for you: A new function may already be “inside” your version without being active for you yet. It will only appear once it has been enabled for your group.
Bug fixes are delivered as part of the regular versions. When your Xentral instance receives its weekly update, all bug fixes included in that version are applied.
If critical errors occur after your weekly version has been rolled out (i.e., bugs that severely affect your operations), we will provide you with a hotfix update as quickly as possible. This way, you do not have to wait until the next regular weekly update to receive important fixes. Hotfixes are delivered outside the normal release cycle as quickly as possible.
What does this mean for you specifically?
-
With your next regular version, you automatically receive the bug fixes included in that release.
-
For critical errors, you additionally receive a fast hotfix so that your work can continue with minimal disruption.
-
Which version you receive depends — as described above — on your release group and your update window.
You can easily check which functions are included in your Xentral version:
-
Check your version number: You can find your current version number in the top right corner of your Xentral instance.
-
Compare it with the Release Notes: The Release Notes show which functions, improvements, and bug fixes are included in each version.
If a feature appears in a version higher than yours, you know: “Okay, I need to update first.”
